Volunteer FAQ’s

IS THERE A PLACE IN WOODSTREAM'S CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES FOR ME TO VOLUNTEER?

Absolutely!  You can make a difference.  You don’t have to look very far to see that ministry opportunities abound, while people resources are in short supply.  God is calling Woodstream to make an impact and it will take everyone’s efforts.

WHY SHOULD I VOLUNTEER...DO YOU REALLY NEED ME?

Volunteers are the heartbeat of Children’s Ministries.  It takes hundreds of volunteers to make Children’s Ministries happen.  So YES…we need you!  It’s so fulfilling to serve Woodstream’s children and their families.   Serving allows you to be used by God to make a real difference in people’s lives.

HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE?

It’s important that each person serve based on their God-given strengths and spiritual gifts.  With that in mind, we encourage you to look for opportunities to serve that allow you to do just that.  We do realize, though, that some people simply want to serve where there is the greatest need.  We always have room for more volunteers in Children’s Ministries.

HOW DO I BEGIN SERVING?

The most important first step is to let us know you are interested.  Once you’ve narrowed down what ministry you are interested in, complete a volunteer interest card and we will connect you with the appropriate Ministry Leader or Coordinator.  You will be invited to observe that ministry in action.  We want to make it easy for you to get involved.  All volunteers must complete an application and background check and in some instances an interview.

HOW CAN I FIND OUT HOW GOD HAS WIRED ME TO SERVE HIM?

We welcome you to explore our ministries with no obligation to commit.  If you are still not sure where to serve, Woodstream also offers a class that can help you determine your spiritual gifts… how God has wired you.

WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME AS A VOLUNTEER?

Expectations vary based on the ministry.  There is a process in place to ensure that you are equipped and trained.  Every volunteer has a Ministry Leader or Coordinator whose responsibility is to ensure you fulfill what God has called you to do.  The most important thing is to be committed and ready to serve.  Good, open communication is the best method to ensure the serving opportunity is a good fit for both you and the ministry.

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

Whether you have one hour or ten hours to give, we have an opportunity that fits your availability.  We have monthly, by-weekly and weekly options varying by ministry and your level of commitment.  We will do our best to be flexible with your schedule and are committed to finding a place that will work for you.

STILL UNSURE?

If you’re still not sure or have additional questions concerning which ministry would be a good fit for you, contact Wanda Coleman, Children’s Ministries Director at children@woodstreamchurch.org  or call 301-955-1142.
